Difference Between Regular, Autoflower & Feminized Seeds
Difference Between Regular, Autoflower & Feminized Seeds

When starting out as a new grower it can be confusing with all the different grow methods, styles and equipment available on the market. In order to start growing cannabis your going to need seeds to germinate. Genetics is everything when growing cannabis, you do not want to spend 3 months of your time to find out you had bad genetics and grew low grade pot. always start with good genetics then go from there.  When purchasing genetics you going to find there will be 3 types of seeds to choose from on most seed banks. Feminized, Regular and Auto Flower seeds. Each type of seed has it’s own grow style, and comes with a different set of pros and cons that I will list below.

Regular Seeds
Regular Seeds- male flowers

Regular seeds are not usually purchased by new growers but often grown by experienced growers interested in breeding or creating new strains. Regular seeds have a 50% chance of either being female or male meaning there is a chance of buying a pack of regular seeds and getting all males. This is rare but it can happen. Regular seeds also take longer to grow then auto flowers meaning you have less crops each year.   One big risk for new growers are if the males are not sexed in time you risk pollinating your entire crop and turning it to seed. For this reason most new growers choose feminized or auto flower seeds.

Pros
Can create your own strains.

Can train and control plants more.
Larger Yields

Cons
Can germinate all males slowing down grow time in your room.

If not sexed can pollinate your room and turn to seed.

Feminized Seeds
Feminized Seeds

Feminized seeds if bought from a reputable breeder usually have a 99% feminized germination rate meaning growers can buy the seeds and put directly into their grow with out the worry of males pollinating their rooms. Growing with feminized seeds saves time and makes growing more efficient as your not culling and replacing males as you would with regular seeds. Growing feminized and regular seeds often takes longer to grow then auto flowers but tends to have larger yields and are easier to control and train.

Pros
Almost always female plants.

Can train and control plants more.
Can take cutting from feminized plants.
Larger yields

Cons
Can sometimes turn into hermaphrodite.

Not the best for breeding.

Auto Flower Seeds
Auto Flower Seeds

Auto flower and feminized seeds are the two most popular seeds for new growers. Auto flower seeds usually always come feminized if your getting them from a reputable breeder but their are male auto flower seeds as well. Auto flowers are usually short and stocky for the most part and the  plants have the time line breed into them so they will go into flower on their own no matter what light cycle you are running. Auto Flowers are easy to grow and grow in shorter periods them feminized or regular seeds allowing new growers to get an extra crop off each year.

Pros
Easy to grow.

No set light cycle to follow.
will start to flower on their own.
Grows faster meaning more crops a year

Cons
Usually less yield.

Can not clone.
