How to store cannabis seeds long term

Storing cannabis seeds correctly is important to ensure you maintain good germination rates.  Short term it is fine to have your seeds in a container, drawer or cupboard but long term storage you are going to want a better solution. Do Not ever put your seeds in the freezer. If there is any moisture in the seed it will cause it to crack or split and could cause the seed to not germinate. 

Why Store Seeds?

There are a number of reasons why we store our seeds but the main reason is if your seeds are exposed to different humidity,  lighting conditions, and temperatures, this can cause the seeds to use up their stored relative humidity and nutrients meaning the seeds wont have the nutrients they need to germinate. Another reason why growers store their seeds is high humidity can cause the seeds to grow fungus or mold and possibly germinate.

How To Store Cannabis Seeds

Equipment Needed 

1.  Oven Preheated to 200 degrees
2. Mason Jar 32oz for small seed stash or 64oz for large seed stash
3. Rice
4. Bowl to set jar in

Step 1 – Preheat Oven 

Step 1 is to preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

Step 2 – Fill Mason Jar With Rice 

Step 2 is to fill the mason jar 1/4 to 1/3 with rice and leave the top off.

Step – 3 Place Mason Jar In Oven 

Put the mason jar in the over for 15 – 20 min. I put the jar into a oven safe dish so it don’t fall over on the rack.

Step – 4 Let mason jar cool down

After 20 min take the mason jar out of the oven and let the rice cool for 1 hour.

Step – 5 Put seeds in jar and store in fridge 

Once your rice is cooled off leave your seeds in the original packs they come in and place them inside your jar of rice and place the jar into the darkest spot of the fridge preferably into a drawer. That is it how your seeds will stay fresh for years to come.

(Notice: All seed vials, Capsules, pucks, or bags of seeds must be placed in small mylar smellproof package. You do not want the seeds or packages that are not air tight to come in contact with the rice because the rice will dry the seeds out.)

So ultimately you are creating a cool, dark dry environment for you to store your seeds in.
